Q: What is a No-Kill Sanctuary?
In No-Kill shelters and sanctuaries, animals are not destroyed except in cases of terminal and painful illness, where compassion demands euthanasia because there is no reasonable alternative. While it seems that the pet overpopulation crisis is slowly improving, the sad fact remains that thousands of adoptable animals are still euthanized every year in the Treasure Valley.
We believe that we must work to change the mindset that companion animals are disposable. Euthanasia as an acceptable form of population control will cease as people begin to make informed decisions when committing to a pet, and large scale spay and neuter programs are in place.
Q: How will our sanctuary benefit our community?
There are numerous ways in which the sanctuary will make a difference in our community.
The implementation of a large scale spay and neuter program will help to reduce the pet overpopulation crisis in the Treasure Valley and surrounding areas, and relieve some of the pressures our local shelters wrestle with when faced with too many abandoned animals and not enough space. The sanctuary will be a place of healing, compassion and training for discarded animals as they prepare to be adopted, and a place of rest and peace for those special needs animals that need a place to call home. It will serve as a focal point for humane education, and a place where humans and animals can come together in mutually beneficial relationships, such as internship programs, behavior training programs, therapeutic riding, pet therapy…the possibilities are endless!
With it’s picturesque setting in the foothills overlooking Boise, the sanctuary will become a popular visitor destination that will make the animal loving citizens of our state proud.
Q: What kind of animals will be at the sanctuary?
Initially, the sanctuary wiii house primarily dogs and cats. However, we plan to expand our capabilities in the future to include other domestic animals such as horses, domestic birds, reptiles, and farm animals.
Q: What will the sanctuary look like?
The sanctuary will open and expand in stages. We are currently assembling a team of professionals to assist us in making the sanctuary as environmentally responsible as possible while retaining functionality.
