Northwest Animal Companions (NAC) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide foster care, low-cost spay and neuter, and adoptions for homeless, abandoned, and abused companion animals in a no-kill sanctuary setting.
In 1998, inspired by a conference held at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, Jan Zimmerman joined Matt Howard and Lynn Fritchman to establish Northwest Animal Companions (NAC). The goal of the NAC founders was to provide care and rescue for homeless, abandoned and abused companion animals in the Treasure Valley while working to establish a no-kill animal sanctuary.
Eleven years later, NAC continues to make great things happen for companion animals in our community. Through the hard work of volunteers and supporters, we are able to provide low-cost spaying and neutering, foster care, mobile adoptions, and fundraising events that are fun for both people and our furry friends.
We are currently seeking sponsorships and other financial support from members of the community to allow us to take NAC to the next level. We are in negotiations for an opportunity that will provide a sustainable source of income, allowing NAC’s vital efforts to continue while we break ground at Almost Home, the Treasure Valley’s first no-kill companion animal sanctuary based on other successful models around the country.
It is our vision that every companion animal will be treated with compassion and respect, and that society will no longer accept euthanasia as a form of population control. We hope to make this vision a reality by ultimately expanding NAC’s efforts in the Treasure Valley to all of Idaho and in to surrounding states.Through our continued hard work and dedication, healthy companion animals will have a second chance at finding their forever homes, no matter how long it takes.
